ST. LOUIS — A mother and her children are suing Washington University, citing alleged negligence and insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and death.
Maxine Nichols, Cindy Brummer, Eric Nichols and Richard Nichols Jr. filed a complaint on Jan. 8 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Washington University alleging that the healthcare provider failed to render the degree of skill and learning ordinarily used by healthcare providers under the same or similar circumstances.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs' decedent Richard Nichols Sr. was under the defendant's care for treatment of abdominal complaints. As a result of the defendant's alleged negligence, he died; and the plaintiffs suffered loss of companionship, guidance and counsel.
The plaintiffs hold Washington University responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to decompress decedent's small bowel and/or colon, failed to diagnose and treat an ischemic bowel, and failed to recommend surgical intervention.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek damages of not less than $25,000, plus costs of this action, and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper. They are represented by Mathhew J. Padberg of Padberg, Corrigan & Appelbaum in St. Louis.
