New Jersey company accused of deceptive debt collection practices

Late 05

ST. LOUIS — A consumer is suing a New Jersey company, alleging deceptive debt collection practices.

Lisa Mitchell filed a complaint on Jan. 10 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against MRS BPO LLC alleging that the New Jersey company violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 5, 2017 she received a collection letter from the defendant demanding payment for an alleged debt. As a result of defendant's actions, she suffered anxiety, frustration, worry, and other actual and statutory damages.

The plaintiff holds MRS BPO responsible because the defendant allegedly continued its collection efforts directly to her after being notified that she was being represented by a lawyer and attempted to mislead her about her legal rights to obtain direct payment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks actual and statutory damages, attorney's fees, costs, and such other relief that the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Bryan E. Brody and Alexander J. Cornwell of Brody & Cornwell in St. Louis.
