ST. LOUIS — A former St. Louis Rams cheerleader is suing the team, its successor and others, alleging negligence and breach of duty.

Emily W. Hawkins and her husband, Joshua Hawkins, filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against the St. Louis Rams LLC, Los Angeles Rams LLC, and others, alleging that they breached their duties to exercise reasonable care for the group's overseas travel.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Jan. 23, 2016 Emily Hawkins was a cheerleader for the Rams when she was injured while at the Al Udied Air Base in Qatar as part of a team tour. She suffered a right open Grade II fracture to her distal fibia and a right open Grade I fracture to her distal fibula. She alleges the Rams failed so secure travel insurance, which caused a delay in her medical evacuation back to the U.S. Due to the delay, she allegedly suffered prolonged pain, discomfort and mental anguish, and has become liable for substantial medical care and treatment expenses.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a safe work environment, failed to obtain insurance coverage for the group while participating on a tour, and failed to create an emergency evacuation plan.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek punitive damages of more than $75,000, plus interest, costs of this action and any further relief that the court may deem just. They are represented by John G. Simon and Erica Blume Slater of The Simon Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
