ST. LOUIS — A brakeman/conductor is suing Norfolk Southern Railway Co., alleging an unsafe work environment.
Stephen Leslie filed a complaint on Jan. 19 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the common carrier operator, alleging that the company failed to provide a safe place to work.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 29, 2017 he was working at defendant's Luther Yard when he lost his balance and stumbled due to the walkways' poor footing and improper balance. He sustained injuries to his spine and bones that resulted in pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, and lost wages and fringe benefits.
The plaintiff holds Norfolk Southern Railway responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide safe training methods for work, failed to properly maintain or repair the walkway, and failed to warn its employees of the unsafe condition of the ballast.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks judgment against the defendant in excess of $25,000, plus costs of this action. He is represented by Steven L. Groves and Emery Reusch of Groves Powers LLC in St. Louis.
