St. Louis University accused of negligence by patient allegedly injured during back surgery

Medical malpractice 09

BELLEVILLE – A patient alleges she was injured during a minimally invasive back surgery.

Olivia Reed and Johnnie B. Reed filed a complaint on Jan. 12 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Louis University and Phillippe Mercier MD

According to the complaint, Olivia Reed sustained injury to her left ureter and to her body as a whole during a minimally invasive back surgery on Jan. 15, 2016, performed by both defendants.

She alleges as a result, she suffered constant pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and incurred substantial medical expenses.

The plaintiffs hold St. Louis University and Mercier responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to identify, isolate and preserve the integrity of plaintiff Olivia Reed's left ureter.

The plaintiffs seek damages of more than $50,000 from both defendants, plus cost of this action. They are represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin & Cook LLP in Belleville.
