Couple sues asbestos products manufacturers for negligence

Asbestos 11

ST. LOUIS — A couple is suing Albany International Corp., Blackmer Pump Co., Valero Energy Corp., and other asbestos products manufacturers and users, alleging failure to warn and negligence.

Larry C. Brown and Shirlene Brown filed a complaint on Feb. 8 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Larry Brown's career from 1960 to 1988 he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. On June 27, 2017, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease allegedly was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiffs hold Albany International Corp., Blackmer Pump Co., Valero Energy Corp., and others responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available, and allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages of more than $25,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
