BELLEVILLE — An individual is suing Jordan Woods, a police officer, and the Village of Washington Park, citing alleged unlawful use of excessive and unreasonable force.

Eric Randall filed a complaint on March 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendants violated the Fourth and 14th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was sleeping at an Econo Inn in Washington Park on March 7, 2017 when he allegedly began to experience "night terrors." Officer Woods came to the hotel after allegedly responding to call from a hotel employee, who allegedly reported screaming coming from Randall's room.

Randall claims that Woods subjected him to unlawful arrest and seizure. As a result, he allegedly suffered severe injuries to his head, face, nose and wrist. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly subjecting him to cruel and unusual punishment by throwing him to the ground, forcefully jamming his knee into his back and handcuffing him and pulling his hands behind his back to the point that it caused injuries.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of no less than $50,000. He is represented by Jarrod P. Beasely of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
