ST. LOUIS – A coffee shop owner alleges she had to close the shop after a water main break caused flooding and property damage.

Nicole McCormack and Renew & Refresh LLC, doing business as Restituo, filed a complaint on March 5 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the city of St. Louis alleging negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Sept. 18, 2015, the main water line near plaintiffs' rented property broke, causing water to flood into their storefront. They allege they incurred damages of $27,730 and the water damage caused the coffee shop to close.

The plaintiffs hold the city of St. Louis responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to inspect its water line to discover any defects and dangerous conditions and failed to mitigate the damages caused to plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages of in an amount greater than $25,000 and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. They are represented by Bret Narayan of Narayan Attorneys at Law in St. Louis.
