ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis couple allege they suffered economic damages when they purchased more than $40,000 worth of product to become an independent business owner for a multi-level marketing company.

Anong Vorachack and Thavone Vorachack filed a complaint on March 14 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Amway Corp. alleging misrepresentation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that in November 2013, an agent of the defendant induced plaintiffs become Amway independent business owners. They allege they paid a $164 registration fee and purchased more than $40,000 worth of products to sell to others. They allege they are not literate in English and that the defendant's agent represented "terms to plaintiffs that led them to believe that they could return products purchased but not sold, but plaintiffs later learned defendant would not refund the purchase price for the products," the suit states.

The plaintiffs allege they were unable to sell the products to recoup their losses and have suffered economic damages.

The plaintiffs seek damages of no less than $25,000 and all further relief that the court may deem fair and equitable. They are represented by Mariano V. Favazza and Stephen M. Lillis of Anderson & Gilbert LC in St. Louis.
