Man files suit against Uniroyal Inc., others over late wife's cancer diagnosis

Asbestos 07

ST. LOUIS – A man alleges his late wife developed cancer because of her exposure to asbestos through him and her father.

Robert R. Gatewood filed a complaint on March 13 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Foster Wheeler Energy Corp., Uniroyal Inc., Goulds Pumps Inc., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is the surviving spouse of Barbara J. Gatewood. He alleges that during his late wife's life, she was secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through the plaintiff and her father. The suits states that on or about May 19, 2017, she was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer, and died on Oct. 5, 2017, due to the disease.

The plaintiff holds Foster Wheeler Energy Corp., Uniroyal Inc., Goulds Pumps Inc., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to warn decedent's father and husband concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks punitive damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court deems proper and just. He is represented by Andrew O'Brien, Christopher J. Thoron, Bartholomew J. Baumstark and Gerald J. FitzGerald of O'Brien Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
