Man alleges General Electric, other failed to warn of asbestos dangers

Asbestos 06

ST. LOUIS – A man formerly employed by the power plant in Sibley, Missouri and other businesses alleges he was exposed to asbestos and caused harm.

Joseph D. Laux filed a complaint on March 14 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against General Electric Co., FMC Corp., Ingersoll-Rand Co., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during his employment from 1957 to 1979, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states that on or about Feb. 14, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease.

The plaintiff holds General Electric Co., FMC Corp., Ingersoll-Rand Co., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of no less than $75,000, plus costs of this action and all further relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Andrew O'Brien, Christopher J. Thoron, Bartholomew J. Baumstark and Gerald J. FitzGerald of O'Brien Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
