Woman alleges talc-based Johnson & Johnson products caused mesothelioma

Asbestos 05

ST. LOUIS – A woman alleges she developed mesothelioma from the use and exposure to talc-based products.

Shawnee D. Douglas filed a complaint on March 12 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Imerys Talc America Inc., Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., et al. alleging strict liability, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during her life, she inhaled and absorbed asbestiform fibers from defendants' talc-based products. She alleges that on or about Aug. 24, 2016, she first became aware that she developed mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiff holds Imerys Talc America Inc., Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently manufactured asbestos-containing products when they knew that it is highly toxic, poisonous and harmful to human health and failed to provide adequate warning regarding the dangers of using asbestos-containing products.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages of more than $25,000. She is represented by Laci M. Whitley and Tyler B. Wilke of Flint Law Firm LLC in Edwardsville.
