Albany International, others alleged to have failed to warn of asbestos dangers

Asbestos 10

ST. LOUIS – A couple alleges several manufacturers failed to warn of the dangers of working around or with asbestos.

Charles Hammonds and Myra Hammonds filed a complaint on March 21 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Albany International Corp., Pharmacia LLC, Pneumo Abex LLC, et al. alleging strict liability, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Charles Hammonds' career at businesses in North Carolina, Mississippi and other Southern states, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states that on or about July 16, 2015, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiffs hold Albany International Corp., Pharmacia LLC, Pneumo Abex LLC, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek actual and compensatory damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief that the court may deem proper and just. They are represented by Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
