ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis consumer alleges a Michigan baked goods producer falsely labels its products as containing no artificial ingredients.

Carol Thornton, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint on April 23 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Ethel's Edibles LLC alleging that the food manufacturer violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in February and March, she purchased defendant's Brownie Dessert Bars from Whole Foods for $3.50. She alleges the defendant's products state on their labels that they contain no artificial ingredients but they contain xanthan gum, which is a synthetic ingredient.

The plaintiff holds Ethel's Edibles LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly misrepresented that its products contain no artificial ingredients.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order certifying this case as a class action and appointing plaintiff and her counsel as representatives, award for compensatory damages, plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Matthew H. Armstrong of Armstrong Law Firm LLC in St. Louis and Stuart L. Cochran of Steckler Gresham Cochran PLLC in Dallas, Texas.
