Property owners allege addition constructed by Shea Construction & Design has cracks

Contract 02

ST. LOUIS – Owners of a St. Louis property allege that the contractor hired to build an addition failed to properly construct it.

Eric Carmichael and Trisha Becker-Carmichael filed a complaint on May 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Shea Construction & Design LLC, formerly known as Callier Thompson Shea Construction & Design LLC, alleging breach of contract and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that in 2006, they contracted defendant for the construction of a two-story addition to their property for $123,735, which was completed the same year.

Following the completion, the plaintiffs allege they experienced problems with the construction and structural soundness of their residence, including cracks and gaps between the drywall and floor. They allege the defendant continued to perform warranty repair work up until December 2015.

The plaintiffs hold Shea Construction & Design LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to construct the project in accordance with the plans and designed and failed to perform corrective warranty work in a competent and professional manner.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek actual and punitive damages of more than $25,000, plus costs and any further relief as the court may deem proper and just. They are represented by David M. Slaby and Andrew C. Ruben of Paule, Camazine & Blumenthal PC in St. Louis.
