Former St. Louis City employee alleges he is entitled to disability benefits from Hartford Life plan

Insurance 06

ST. LOUIS – A former St. Louis City employee alleges his claim for disability benefits was wrongfully denied by an insurance company.

Orlando Saxton filed a complaint on April 27 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Hartford Life Insurance Co. alleging that the plan administrator wrongfully determined that he did not meet the definition of disabled under the terms of the plan.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was employed by the city of St. Louis until he became disabled on Oct. 23, 2015. He alleges he applied for disability benefits under the policy issued by defendant, which was denied in May 2017.

The plaintiff holds Hartford Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly made its determination without reasonable cause or excuse.

The plaintiff seeks an order for defendant to pay disability income benefits to which he is entitled, plus interest and costs of this action. He is represented by David Hicks of David M. Hicks PC in Maryville.
