ST. LOUIS – A Florissant woman alleges negligent care at a hospital caused her to become a paraplegic.

Nancy Gray filed a complaint on May 24 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times between June 1 and June 11, 2016, plaintiff was under the care of defendants for complaints of fevers, chills, back and flank pain. The suit states she presented to the Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital emergency room on June 1, 2016, and was diagnosed with vertebral osteomyelitis/diskitis, spinal epidural abscess, gram-positive bacteremia and severe sepsis.

She alleges she was discharged June 11, 2016, without the defendants having properly treated her condition. She alleges that on June 12, 2016, a day after her discharge, she lost muscle control of her lower extremities and has remained a paraplegic since.

The plaintiff holds Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly diagnose and treat her medical condition and failed to inform her that she was being discharged without proper treatment of her epidural abscess.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in a fair and reasonable amount, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by James Bartimus and Mike Meyer of Bartimus Frickleton Robertson Rader PC in Leawood, Kansas.
