ST. LOUIS – Several consumers allege a Monsanto Co. herbicide caused them to develop cancer.

Leroy Smith, Lanny Akridge, Connie Alicie, et al. filed a complaint on May 16 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Monsanto Co., Osborne & Barr Communications and Osborne & Barr Holdings Inc. alleging failure to warn, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that as a result of their exposure to Monsanto's Roundup, an herbicide that contains the active ingredient glyphosate, they developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, or other types of cancers.

The plaintiffs hold Monsanto Co., Osborne & Barr Communications and Osborne & Barr Holdings Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently manufactured and marketed Roundup with full knowledge that it was dangerous and defective and failed to provide adequate warnings and proper directions about the dangers associated with using it.

The plaintiffs seek damages of no less than $25,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court deems proper and equitable. They are represented by John G. Simon, Anthony G. Simon and Amy Collignon Gunn of The Simon Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
