ST. LOUIS – An attorney alleges her current employer is discriminating against her because of her age, sex and disability.

Cheryl Rafert filed a complaint on May 31 in the St Louis Circuit Court against Legal Services of Eastern Missouri Inc. alleging disability discrimination, age discrimination and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, 62, has been employed by the defendant since January 2009. She alleges she has asthma and that in January 2014, the defendant's insurance company discontinued coverage for her medication and she had to try less-effective forms of medication that caused her asthma to worsen. She alleges she requested accommodation in the form of a modified work schedule from the defendant but it failed to do so.

The plaintiff also alleges that she was denied three management positions and two staff attorney positions.

The plaintiff holds Legal Services of Eastern Missouri Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected her to adverse employment actions and a hostile work environment and failed to promote her.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, litigation fees, costs and expenses and all further relief as the court may deem proper and just. She is representing herself.
