ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man alleges a nonprofit organization terminated his employment due to his age.

Elbert Harris filed a complaint on June 7 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Gateway Region YMCA alleging that violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was employed by the defendant from 1999 until he was terminated Dec. 26, 2016. He alleges he was replaced by a younger employee and that prior to his termination, his supervisor allegedly told him she wanted to replace him with someone younger. The suit states the plaintiff is older than 40.

The plaintiff holds Gateway Region YMCA responsible because the defendant also allegedly retaliated against him by suspending his membership in August 2017 after he filed his discrimination charge.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court may deem proper and just. He is represented by Richard J. Magee of The Magee Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
