ST. LOUIS – A former carpenter and millwright alleges he developed a lung disease as a result of exposure to asbestos during his career.

Gary Evans filed a complaint on June 14 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against the defendants alleging Union Carbide Corp., Crown Cork & Seal USA Inc., Flowserve US Inc., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during the course of his employment at various locations in the state in the 1960s and 1970s, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. The suit states that on or about March 7, he was diagnosed with asbestosis, an asbestos-induced disease.

The plaintiff holds Union Carbide Corp., Crown Cork & Seal USA Inc., Flowserve US Inc., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of no less than $75,000, plus punitive damages, costs and all other additional relief that the court may deem proper and just. He is represented by Andrew A. O'Brien, Christopher J. Thoron, Bartholomew J. Baumstark, Gerald J. FitzGerald and Adam J. Reynolds of O'Brien Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
