ST. LOUIS – A client alleges she has lost the opportunity to pursue an injury complaint against St. Louis County because of the actions of a St. Louis law firm.

Marilyn Johnson filed a complaint on July 3 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Brown & Crouppen, Attorneys at Law, PC alleging legal malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she entered into a contract with defendant to represent her in an injury complaint against St. Louis County over a 2013 fall on a wet sidewalk. She alleges the defendant initially sent notice of the suit to the city of Wellston instead of St. Louis County, and she later terminated her contract with the defendant.

The suit states that the plaintiff is not unable to pursue her claim against St. Louis County because of the defendant's alleged negligence. She alleges she was "forced" to accept a nominal settlement from Wellston that only covered a small portion of her total damages.

The plaintiff holds Brown & Crouppen, Attorneys at Law, PC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to effectively communicate with her to ensure where the fall took place, failed to appropriately investigate the location to know where to provide the notice of her claim, and provided insufficient notice to the wrong party.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus punitive damages, costs and interest. She is represented by Alvin A. Wolff Jr. and Alexander A. Wolff of Wolff & Wolff Trial Lawyers in St. Louis.
