ST. LOUIS – A former St. Louis city employee alleges his age and disability were factors in his termination from his job.
Todd Cole filed a complaint on Aug. 16 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against city of St. Louis, et al. alleging that they violated the Missouri Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff is older than 40, lost one eye in 1996, and began working for the city of St. Louis in 2015 in the Department of Public Utilities. The suit states he was injured while working in March 2016 by a backhoe bucket, filed a workers' compensation claim and missed 105 days of work.
He alleges he was subjected to discrimination because of his age and disability and filed a written complaint in June 2017. The suit states he was terminated Sept. 29, 2017.
The plaintiff holds the city of St. Louis, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly harassed, discharged and discriminated against him regarding compensation and terms of his employment because of his age and disability.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of no less than $25,000, plus costs of this action, attorney's fees, costs and expenses and any further relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Kevin J. Kasper and Ryan P. Schellert of Kasper Law Firm LLC in St. Charles.
