ST. LOUIS – A man alleges he was exposed to asbestos beginning in the 1960s while working in Wisconsin and that it caused him to develop lung cancer.

Donald Northrup filed a complaint on Sept. 20 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against CBS Corp.; Crown, Cork & Seal USA Inc.; Union Carbide Corp.; et al. alleging strict liability and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that beginning in 1962 while working in Wisconsin, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states that on or about Dec. 1, 2016, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiff holds CBS Corp.; Crown, Cork & Seal USA Inc.; Union Carbide Corp.; et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew that it had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effect to human health and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks actual and compensatory damages of more than $50,000, plus costs and any further relief as the court may deem just and equitable. He is represented by Benjamin R. Schmickle and Matthew C. Morris of SWMW Law LLC in St. Louis.
