ST. LOUIS – A patient alleges he has lost the use of his legs because of an infection contracted during surgery.

Gary L. Evans filed a complaint on Sept. 18 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Sept, 21, 2016, he underwent a L3-4 laminectomy and microdiskectomy surgery under the care of defendants. As a result of defendants' allegedly negligent acts, the suit states he contracted a surgical site infection and has lost the use of his legs

The plaintiff holds Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to ensure that the operating room was properly sanitized and failed to institute infection control and appropriate post-operative follow-up protocols.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs, interest and all further relief that are proper and just. He is represented by Douglas P. Dowd and Lia Obata Dowd of Dowd & Dowd PC in St. Louis.
