ST. LOUIS — A former mechanic is suing Crane Co., BP Products North America Inc., Doe Run Resources Corp., et al, asbestos products manufacturers, citing alleged failure to warn and negligence.
Charles R. Hope filed a complaint on Oct. 12, in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court, alleging the defendants breached their duties to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during Sylvester Watson's career starting in 1953, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants.
On or about June 11, 2018, Sylvester was diagnosed with lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, according to court documents. He has suffered great pain and anguish and incurred medical expenses.
The plaintiff holds Crane Company, BP Products North America Inc. and Doe Run Resources Corp., et al, responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages of more than $75,000, plus costs and all other just and proper relief.
He is represented by Andrew A. O'Brien, Christopher J. Thoron, Bartholomew J. Baumstark, Gerald J. FitzGerald and Adam J. Reynolds of O'Brien Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
