ST. LOUIS – A bicyclist is suing the city of St. Louis after a city employee allegedly struck him while passing.

William Harness filed a complaint on Nov. 2 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the city of St. Louis alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 4, he was operating his bicycle on Lafayette Avenue near its intersection with South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis when he was struck by the vehicle driven by defendant's employee, Clifton Cooley, when Cooley attempted to pass him. He alleges he sustained serious injuries to his ribs along with multiple contusions.

The plaintiff holds the city of St. Louis responsible because Cooley failed to keep a careful lookout, failed to yield to the right of way and failed to maintain in a single lane.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, costs, interest and all further relief as the court deems necessary. He is represented by Kurt E. Wolfgram of Wolfgram & Associates PC in St. Louis.
