ST. LOUIS – A widow alleges her late husband developed lung cancer as a result of asbestos exposure while employed in Alabama.

Mary Sue Cordell, individually and as surviving heir of the estate of Paul Cordell, deceased filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against CBS Corp., et al. alleging strict liability, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during Paul Cordell's life, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states he was first exposed to asbestos in the 1960s and 1970s while working for a company in Alabama.

The suit states that on or about Aug. 25, 2017, Paul Cordell first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and passed away on Sept. 21, 2017.

The plaintiff holds CBS Corp., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks actual and compensatory damages of more than $50,000, costs, interest and all further relief as the court deems just and equitable. She is represented by Benjamin R. Schmickle and Matthew C. Morris of SWMW Law LLC in St. Louis.
