Research assistant files sex discrimination suit against Washington University

ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis woman alleges her sex was a contributing factor from her termination as a research assistant for a university.

Jennifer Mueller filed a complaint on Dec. 26 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Washington University alleging sex discrimination and harassment and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant in September 2001. The suit states in 2012, 2013 and 2016 she had three children and returned to her employment each time after her maternity leave.

The plaintiff alleges during the course of her employment, she was subjected to unwelcome, offensive and harassing conduct from supervisors and co-workers based on her sex.

The suit states in September 2017, she took time off while her one of her children was in the hospital in critical condition. The suit states on Dec. 29, 2017, she was abruptly fired without explanation. 

The plaintiff alleges her sex was a contributing factor in her treatment and termination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, costs, attorney's fees and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Edwin C. Ernst IV and Jeffrey W. Ernst of Sowers Ernst LLC in St. Louis.
