ST. LOUIS – A tenant of a St. Louis unit alleges deteriorated carpet on the stairs leading to his unit caused him to slip and fall.

Miguel Muralles Jr. filed a complaint on Feb. 5 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Tawana Spann alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff rented the upper unit of a property on Minnesota in St. Louis from the defendant. He alleges that on Oct. 1, 2014, he slipped and fell down the stairs and sustained serious and painful injuries to his neck and back.

The plaintiff holds Spann responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to remove or replace the deteriorated carpet on the stairs leading to plaintiff's unit.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs and all further relief as the court may deem just and equitable. He is represented by Mark A. Helfers of the Law Office of Mark A. Helfers LLC in University City.
