Combustible dusts are found in numerous industries and operations, from dairy powder production to space age manufacturing processes, any of which has the potential to cause an explosion or fire. A plethora of laws, regulations, and standards require or recommend a multitude of measures to prevent and/or mitigate the consequences of an explosion or fire. However, the nature of the dust varies with the material and the processes involved, as do the circumstances in which a dust may present a fire or explosion hazard. Given this variety, the recommended and/or required practices differ based on the properties of the dust, the specifics of the process and the industry and/or facility at issue.
Understanding this complex landscape can be legally and technically challenging. However, proper implementation of good practices often results in risk reduction and long term financial savings. On the other hand, incorrect application of the laws or standards may result in penalties and excessive spending while failing to achieve the intended level of safety. This webinar highlights some of the key legal and technical considerations that companies face in the evolving regulatory climate associated with combustible dust.
