A union for rail workers says BNSF Railway has violated the federal Railway Labor Act.

The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen filed its complaint in federal court against BNSF Railway, Inc.

The union accuses BNSF of unilaterally changing and disregarding an agreement related to lines formerly leased to Montana Rail Link. The complaint states that BNSF violated the act by outsourcing certain work when an agreement between the parties allows use of contractors only if there are 35 or more Signalmen working on those lines.

Currently, BNSF employs fewer than 35 Signalmen on those lines.

The union is seeking a declaratory judgment and an injunction against these alleged violations.
