JEFFERSON CITY — Americans for Prosperity has launched a $20 million nationwide campaign aimed at urging Congress to renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a signature piece of President-elect Donald Trump’s economic policy.
This initiative is the largest effort by a conservative organization to back Trump’s legislative agenda, highlighting the significance of the TCJA’s impact on American families and businesses.
The “Protect Prosperity” campaign kicked off with an extensive advertising blitz across all 50 states.
The ads encourage citizens to advocate for maintaining the tax cuts and to warn against the economic consequences of their expiration.
AFP officials argue that failing to renew the TCJA would result in significant tax increases and economic setbacks for Americans.
Gary Hollis, State Director of AFP-Missouri, emphasized the stakes for Missouri residents.
"This year, Congress is facing a countdown to a crisis that threatens family budgets nationwide," Hollis said in a provided statement. "If Congress fails to renew the TCJA, Missourians will be left paying over $2,105 more in taxes."
Hollis said it was important for the TCJA to be renewed.
"Along with increasing the burden of inflation on working families, the expiration of these tax cuts would cripple local businesses with a $911 tax increase and ultimately cost over 13,378 jobs," Hollis said.
Hollis further stated that protecting and expanding pro-growth tax policies is crucial to revitalizing the economy and creating job opportunities.
"If we are going to reignite the American Dream, we need to start with protecting the progress we made with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act," Hollis said. "We are proud to partner with the incoming Trump Administration to protect prosperity and ensure that Congress acts before millions of Missourians face crippling increases in their tax bills."
The campaign’s reach is extensive, with plans to mobilize grassroots efforts in every state.
AFP aims to engage millions of voters through phone calls, door-to-door outreach, and community events. The group also plans to elevate the voices of pro-TCJA Members of Congress while holding accountable those who do not support extending the tax cuts.
AFP will engage in over 1,000 meetings with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill and host in-district events with activists and lawmakers as part of its strategy.
The organization also plans to organize roundtable discussions with business leaders and share testimonials from families and businesses about the potential impact of losing the TCJA’s benefits.
The Protect Prosperity campaign will include a robust media strategy, spanning all 50 states, to amplify its message.
AFP is planning to make 20,000 contacts at constituent doors in February alone, as part of its goal to ensure pro-growth tax reform remains a top priority for Congress.
AFP’s efforts come on the heels of a record-breaking outreach initiative in 2023 and 2024, during which the organization and its affiliate, AFP Action, reached nearly 30 million voters.
This year’s campaign will build on that momentum, with AFP’s grassroots army mobilized to advocate for tax reform and protect American prosperity.
"The Trump tax cuts of 2017 led to an economic boom that featured job growth, wage growth, and low inflation," the Protect Prosperity campaign page said. "Unless Congress acts by the end of the year, those tax cuts will expire, and Americans will see their taxes go up. How much? $1,500 a year for the average family of four. That’s unacceptable! Americans continue struggling with the effects of Bidenomics: higher prices costing us $12,000 more a year on average, sky high interest rates, and stagnant wages. The last thing we need is a bigger tax bill! Doing nothing isn’t an option. The clock is ticking. Tell Congress to act now!"
