AT&T Inc. is facing a class-action lawsuit alleging the company failed to secure and safeguard the personally identifiable information of more than 70 million customers.

Stephanie Doss, Bethany Miller and Aimee Jarvis filed the complaint in federal court on behalf of themselves and all other similarly affected customers who were affected by a data breach.

The plaintiffs argue AT&T could have prevented the data breach by properly monitoring its file software. As a result of AT&T's failure to provide reasonable and adequate data security, the plaintiffs say their unencrypted, non-redacted information has been exposed to unauthorized third parties, putting them at a higher risk of identity theft and cybercrimes.

The plaintiffs are seeking redress for the lifetime harm they now will face due to the data breach. This includes reimbursement of losses associated with identity theft and fraud, out-of-pocket costs incurred to mitigate the risk of future harm, compensation for time and effort spent responding to the data breach, the costs of extending credit monitoring services and identity theft insurance, and injunctive relief requiring AT&T to ensure that they implement and maintain reasonable data security practices going forward.
