ST. LOUIS — A couple is suing a number of asbestos products manufacturers, citing alleged negligence, which led to the husband developing mesothelioma.
Robert Oakes and Sharon Oakes filed a complaint on Nov. 14 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc., Ameren Illinois Co., Aurora Pump Co., and others, alleging that they failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of others.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, between 1969 and 2015, Robert Oakes was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. On June 13, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos-induced disease, and the disease allegedly was wrongfully caused.
The plaintiffs hold Alcatel-Lucent USA, Ameren Illinois, Aurora Pump and others responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available, and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek damages of more than $25,000, and any further relief as the court deems just and equitable. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
