ST. LOUIS — Consumers are suing a number of talcum powder manufacturers, citing alleged negligence.
Maureen Kassimali, Luz Maria Alvarez, Adriana Arango and others filed a complaint on Dec. 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Johnson & Johnson, PTI Union LLC, d/b/a Pharma Tech Industries, and other talcum powder makers alleging that they continually advertised that talc is safe for human use as evidenced in its slogan "A sprinkle a day keeps odor away".
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that as a result of using Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Shower to Shower they developed ovarian cancer. They have incurred medical expenses, and had to endure pain and suffering.
The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly negligently manufactured the unreasonably dangerous and defective products, and failed to provide adequate health warnings in using it.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek judgment against the defendants, jointly and severally, for compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, costs, attorney's fees, and all further relief as the court may deem just and equitable. They are represented by James G. Onder, William W. Blair and Stephanie L. Rados of Onderlaw LLC in St. Louis; R. Allen Smith Jr. of The Smith Law Firm PLLC in Ridgeland, Mississippi; and Timothy W. Porter of Porter & Malouf in Jackson, Mississippi.
