ST. LOUIS — Consumers are suing Monsanto Co., Osborn & Barn Communications Inc., and Osborn & Barn Holdings Inc., a biotechnology company and distributors, citing alleged negligence.

Edward Spiller Jr., Karen Aufiero, Marc Banner and others filed a complaint on Dec. 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they falsely represented that Roundup is safe for humans and the environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, as a result of their exposure to Roundup, a herbicide that contains the active ingredient glyphosate and surfactant polyethoxylated tallow amine (POEA), they were caused to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, and other type of cancers.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly negligently manufactured and distributed Roundup with full knowledge that it was dangerous and defective, and failed to provide adequate warnings and proper directions about the dangers associated with using it.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek compensatory and exemplary damages of not less than $25,000, and any further relief as the court deems proper and equitable. They are represented by James G. Onder, W. Wylie Blair and Mark E. Berns of Onder Law LLC in St. Louis.
