Man claims illness caused by exposure to asbestos

Asbestos 10

ST. LOUIS — A couple is suing multiple corporations, alleging the husband was exposed to asbestos because of their actions.

Leroy Grossman and Doris Grossman filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Belden Wire & Cable Company, CBS Corporation, Certain-Teed Corporation, et al., alleging that the defendants sold and distributed asbestos-containing products that were defective and unreasonably dangerous.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that between 1952 and Dec. 5, 1980 Leroy Grossman was exposed to asbestos in St. Louis while smoking Kent Micromite-filtered cigarettes and doing various personal home remodeling projects. On Nov. 7, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos-induced disease.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings to persons working with or around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers contained in them.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek judgment for actual, compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages in an amount in excess of $25,000. They are represented by Benjamin R. Schmickle and Matthew C. Morris of SWMW Law, LLC in St. Louis.
