ST. LOUIS — A former employee is suing Harris-Stowe State University, and others at the university, citing alleged discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Clarice Poindexter filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they failed to make good faith efforts to prevent discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during her employment with the defendants she was subjected to pervasive discrimination, harassment, a hostile work environment and retaliation due to her age and gender. She was forced to retire on March 1, 2017. 

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly constantly denied her requests for promotion, failed to offer her any meaningful opportunities for advancement while male employees under the age 40 were given promotions and higher raises, and forced her to retire due to her age and gender.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks damages of not less than $25,000, attorneys' fees, costs and interest, and all other relief deemed just and proper. She is represented by Jeremy D. Hollingshead and Katie Rhoten of Hollingshead & Dudley in St. Louis, and Thomas SanFilippo of Thomas SanFilippo & Associates in St. Louis.
